“Viewing the World Through a Social Capital Lens: Who You Know Matters, Community Building Counts." Lew Feldstein was President and CEO of the New Hampshire Charities Foundation.
Lew Feldstein will reflect on the value of looking at front porches as crime fighting tools, treating picnics as public health efforts, and seeing choral groups as occasions of democracy. We'll become a better place when assessing the impact of social capital becomes a standard part of decision-making, as it is in a steadily increasing number of countries around the world.
Lew Feldstein is one of the nation’s leading activists and thinkers in the field of social capital. For the past 22 years he has worked very closely with Robert D. Putnam, Malkin Professor of Public Policy at Harvard University, including co-chairing the three-year Harvard sponsored national "Saguaro Seminar on Social Capital," whose 27 members included Barack Obama and four MacArthur Award winners; coauthored the book "Better Together" on a dozen outstanding case studies of social capital across the U.S., and delivered more than 150 speeches on social capital in 32 states and 15 countries.
During this period, Feldstein was the President and CEO of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, one of the 25 largest community foundations in America. Prior to this Feldstein served eight years as a senior staffer to NYC Mayor John Lindsay, was Provost of the Antioch New England Graduate School, hosted "The 51st State," an evening nightly New York City TV news show, and spent several years with the civil rights movement in Mississippi. He also served one year as personal assistant to movie actor John Wayne on his yacht in the Mediterranean.
