The Charles Group, LLC is a public policy consulting firm that works with both the government and the private sector. They work to improve performance and provide strategic guidance on a range of issues such as national security, international affairs, criminal justice, counter-narcotics, and management issues. Their mission is to empower their clients and educate policy makers through hard work and integrity.
Brief Description of the Intern’s role or key qualifications:
The Government Affairs Assistant will work directly with the firm's leadership to serve clients in the areas of national security, criminal justice, homeland security, and aerospace. Activities will include meeting with clients, attending committee hearings in the House and Senate, conducting legislative research, and drafting position papers for distribution to the United States Congress. This is an outstanding opportunity to learn about the legislative and annual appropriations processes, meet congressional staff and members, and understand how companies and non-profit organizations influence the policymaking process. The Charles Group is a small, busy office. It’s important that applicants be interested in current events concerning security, counter-terror, law enforcement issues. They will need strong research/ writing skills and be able to and interested in discussing and independently researching and furthering their knowledge about these issues. Good people skills are a must.
