Rockefeller Center Supports Parliamentary Debate Team

On January 15 and 16, the Rockefeller Center was the site of a parliamentary debate tournament hosted by the Dartmouth Parliamentary Debate student group, with support funding provided by the Rockefeller Center. In all, over forty schools were represented in the tournament. The tournament was organized into preliminary rounds. These preliminary rounds determined which schools advanced to the quarterfinal, semifinal and final rounds. The Johns Hopkins University pair earned top team at the competition, and one of the Johns Hopkins debaters earned top speaker.

The tournament had a strong impact on the cohesiveness of the Dartmouth team. Through the process of organizing and participating in the tournament, both varsity and novice team members became more involved and committed to the parliamentary debate team. Because of the tournament, the Dartmouth team grew in commitment and the novices on the team improved.

The Rockefeller Center funding was integral to creating a hospitable and successful tournament. Many of those who participated characterized it as their favorite tournament.
