Brief Description of the organizationThe ASPCAs Government Relations Department works to help enact meaningful legal protections for animals at the state and federal levels. We lobby for bills that strengthen animal protection and prevent cruelty; we work to ensure that strong regulations are issued by agencies to implement new policies; we offer advocacy training and support for citizens who wish to engage in policy change; and we work on ballot campaigns to advance protections when a legislative solution is unavailable.

Brief Description of the Intern's role or key qualificationsInterns are expected to help to mobilize the ASPCA Advocacy Brigade membership on key initiatives, aid in tracking the existence and movement of administrative regulations and laws pertaining to animals, draft letters and other documents and conduct legal and issue research to assist regulatory, federal and state efforts,  attend Capitol Hill events, such as hearings and briefings; attend and/or help organize coalition meetings and local events, respond to information requests from ASPCA constituents, serve as office liaison for traveling and remote staff members, attend strategy and staff meetings, and assist with miscellaneous office tasks and projects as needed.
