Brief Description of the organization:

FiveThirtyEight, founded by Nate Silver, is a data-supported news website owned by ESPN, a Disney company. Founded in 2008, FiveThirtyEight started with a focus on opinion poll analysis but over the years has expand into the wider world of news including politics, sports, lifestyles, science, economics and general news. In 2016, FiveThirtyEight won the “Data Journalism Website of the Year” award which only its latest of many awards won since its establishment.

Brief Description of the Intern’s role or key qualifications:

Data Reporter: Applicant must have an interest in a combination of public policy, politics, economics, science, sports, or culture with experience in journalism including publications as well as experience with statistics. This intern will work with reporters to research and write articles.

Copy Editor: Applicant must have experience with editing, fact-checking, and large databases as well as a familiarity with numerical charts. This intern should be interested in pursuing a career in editing.

Podcast and Video: Applicant must have basic audio and visual editing skills as well as an interest in production. This intern will assist with the production of the website’s podcasts, videos, and other multimedia products.

Visual Journalist: Applicant should have a background in journalism as well as experience making data graphics using either Illustrator or programming languages such as JavaScript, Python, or R. This intern will design graphics for the website and create blog posts.
