During my internship, I assisted Economist Caio Piza on research regarding small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in developing countries. Specifically, I spent six weeks researching different countries’ and multilateral organizations’ policies to support SMEs, the amount of funding that each organization provides to SMEs, the goals and objectives of each organization, and the tools used to support such policy goals....

As an intern, I supported prosecutions and investigations by assisting attorneys and paralegals, including serving as a paralegal for a trial that involved corruption in the New York City Police Department.

Sonstituent correspondence was my main responsibility, which included answering phone calls for the office, providing assistance to the callers, and organizing mail sent to the office. In fact, ensuring effective correspondence between constituents and representatives provided me with a unique perspective into what it means to be a public servant.

During my time in the Office of the Clerk, I helped pro se petitioners with their petitioning process and prepared packets with instructions on how to file a petition with the Court.

My assignments quickly evolved to include composing legislative summaries, researching environmental bill proposals, and tracking media coverage on policy. All this work goes toward the first steps taken to make significant economic changes in the United States.

My main responsibilities were to compile information and data regarding the United Kingdom’s departure from the European Union (Brexit), steps for expediting a successful Brexit transition for small businesses, information championing the United Kingdom’s financial contributions to the EU budget, additional material on member states financial contributions, and the upcoming May 2019 European Parliament elections....

The final report synthesizes the lesson learned from 10 weeks of study on campus and two weeks of travel in Colombia and provides relevant background, analysis, and actionable recommendations for the U.S. around the primary research question of the role, if any, of the United States.

As the U.S. moves forward, we must continually challenge our assumptions, seek out different viewpoints, and be bold in finding innovative solutions to current problems. Dare to dream, dare to believe, dare to do, and dare to be.
