Postdoctoral Fellow in State and Local Policy Research

Advance Impactful Policy Work at Dartmouth

The Rockefeller Center for Public Policy at Dartmouth invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in State and Local Policy Research for the 2026–2027 academic year. This one-year position, with the possibility of renewal, offers an exciting opportunity for emerging scholars to contribute to meaningful, real-world policy research while mentoring the next generation of public policy leaders.

The fellow will play a key role in advancing research on domestic childcare policy, with a particular focus on strengthening the early childhood education workforce through improved recruitment and retention. Candidates with interests spanning education, housing, workforce development, health, environmental policy, social policy, or criminal justice are especially encouraged to apply. The position calls for strong analytical and data management skills, experience with both qualitative and quantitative methods, and a demonstrated ability to conduct in-depth research.

In addition to research responsibilities, the fellow will help lead the Class of 1964 Policy Research Shop (PRS), a student-driven, faculty-mentored initiative that provides nonpartisan policy analysis to public officials across Vermont and New Hampshire. This role includes mentoring undergraduate researchers, managing policy projects, and supporting students as they present findings to legislative and community stakeholders—offering a unique blend of scholarship and public engagement.

As part of Dartmouth’s broader social science community, the fellow will collaborate across departments and research centers while also benefiting from professional development opportunities through the Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies. The position includes a competitive salary, benefits, research funding, and teaching opportunities within Dartmouth’s academic program.

Applications will be reviewed beginning April 6, 2026, and will be accepted until the position is filled. Learn more and apply here.
