Uma Alagappan

First-Year Fellowship: Save The Children; Mentor: Gabriella Garcia '01

Uma Alagappan graduated from Friends Academy, a Quaker high school on Long Island, NY. She spent four years in student government and running the Peer Tutoring program. She has interned with Baha'i International Community at the UN, and spent her summer before freshman year working as a recreation therapist at Harbor House, an assisted living facility for memory-impaired residents. At Dartmouth, Uma is a Great Issues Scholar in residence She sings with the Dartmouth Rockapellas, an a cappella group with a mission for social justice, and works on research for the Political Violence Field Lab. She intends to study Quantitative Social Sciences, Public Policy and Education. Uma hopes to combine her varied interests to contribute to public policy. She focuses on quantitative studies because she would like to contribute to the quantitative analysis of policies.
