Policy Research Shop Participants Present to the Vermont House of Representatives Committee

On Thursday, January 24, 2013, a policy brief produced by Kevin Schorr ‘15, Kamran Ali ‘15, and Edgar Sandoval ‘14 in the Nelson A. Rockefeller Center’s Policy Research Shop, was presented to the Vermont House of Representatives Committee on Fish, Wildlife, and Water Resources in the State Capitol building in Montpelier, VT.  Kevin Schorr, the lone member of the team on campus for the winter term, provided formal testimony on their brief, "Assessing the Feasibility of a Vermont Statewide Stormwater Utility," and responded to questions from Chairman David Dean and committee members. Currently there are more than 1,300 stormwater utilities established across the nation.  While some of these utilities serve populations as large as Vermont and other occupy land area close to the size of Vermont, there has yet to be a statewide stormwater utility established in the United States.  The PRS research team developed a comparative case study design in order to construct a compendium of best practices across six design and implementation criteria that will serve the Committee in its future planning.

As previously mentioned, following up on their testimony before the New Hampshire Department of Safety on March 8, 2012, Rockefeller Center Policy Research Shop students Amy Couture ‘14, Michael Danaher ’13, and Tina Meng ’14 traveled back to Concord on May 10, 2012 to brief Governor John Lynch on the findings they had presented to the Department of Safety in their PRS Policy Brief, “Performance Measurement for State Governmental Agencies: Comparative Case Studies.”

Dartmouth Policy Research Shop Reports Findings on Voter Identification to NH House

On Tuesday, March 6, 2012, three Dartmouth students, Stephen Prager ’14, Manav Raj ’15, and Joseph Singh ’14, from the Nelson A.  Rockefeller Center Policy Research Shop, traveled to the New Hampshire  House of Representatives in Concord to testify before a special session of the House Committee on Election Law at the request of Chairman David Bates.

PRS Students Deliver Performance Assessment Testimony at NH Dept of Safety

On Thursday, March 8, 2012, three PRS students, Mike Danaher ’13, Amy Couture ’14, and Tina Meng ‘14, from the Nelson A. Rockefeller Center Policy Research Shop, traveled to the NH Department of Safety building in Concord, NH to deliver a presentation to Commissioner of Safety John Barthelmes and the directors of the Division of Motor Vehicles, State Police, Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Fire Safety and Fire Marshal, Fire Standards and Training/EMS, Emergency Communications and 911, and Administration. 

PRS Students Testify to Vermont House of Representatives Committee on Natural Resources and Energy

On Thursday, February 16, 2012, three Dartmouth students, Li-Ning Yang '15, Chinedu Udeh '12, and Andrew Clay '12, from the Nelson A. Rockefeller Center Policy Research Shop, traveled to the Vermont House of Representatives in Montpelier to testify before the House Committee on Natural Resources and Energy at the request of Chairman Tony Klein.
The PRS team testified on policy options for establishing an Office of Ombudsman in the State of Vermont.  The students presented case studies of statewide Ombudsman offices currently found in five states and implementation options available for Vermont to consider.  Following a twenty-minute presentation, the students responded to questions and comments from members of the committee. The team also enjoyed a visit to the House and Senate chambers in the state capitol building with Chairman Klein.

Policy Research Shop Team Underway with Projects this Winter

Members of the Rockefeller Center Public Policy Research Shop (PRS) turned out in high numbers for the group's first meeting of the Winter Term on January 5, 2012.  Student researchers met with PRS Director, Professor Ron Shaiko, and PRS Managers, Professors Margaret Post and Benjamin Cole, to discuss the progress that had been made on uncompleted projects in Public Policy 45 and a number of new projects.  The PRS team is excited to get underway.
