Biography

Begum Burcak ’29 is from Istanbul, Turkey and graduated from the Uskudar American Academy. At UAA, she was the Editor-in-Chief of The Claw and president of the British Parliamentary Debate team and Model United Nations club. A two-time national finalist and member of the Turkish National Debate Team, she also earned a Silver Medal at the International Economics Olympiad and a "Best in Finance" award. She remains dedicated to community service, having tutored underprivileged children in Eastern Turkey and supported regional library foundations. At Dartmouth, Begum is a Great Issues Scholar, an associate editor for Dartmouth Law Journal, an analyst for Consult Your Community, a news author for The Dartmouth, and a member of the Special Programs and Events Committee. She is majoring in Economics and Government, focusing on developmental economics and political economy. On campus, she enjoys exploring the Rauner Archives and taking long walks around Occom Pond.
