Biography
Qianxiong Yang is a Guarini Dean's Postdoctoral Fellow at Dartmouth College. He received his PhD in Theater and Performance Studies from UCLA School of Theater, Film, and Television. His research broadly concerns the political and cultural context of technoscience, especially on a comparative and transnational scale. His dissertation and current book project theorize how technocultural formations at the intersection of computational media and biotechnology are shifting historical structures of subjectivity, agency, embodiment, gender, labor, and value in contemporary China and the US, and in turn, demand new forms of political criticism. He has additional research and teaching interests in visual culture (film, digital media, architecture, fashion), critical theory, and medical humanities, and has also collaborated on a dozen theater and film projects as an actor, playwright, director and makeup artist.
