Recognizing the Rockefeller Center's Student Program Assistants: Amanda Lamothe-Cadet '15

In this series, the Rockefeller Center features our Student Program Assistants, student staff who contribute significantly to the success of the Center’s events, programs, and activities.

When Amanda Lamothe-Cadet walked into her first meeting for the Rockefeller Global Leadership Program (RGLP), she didn’t know she would be staying with the program for the next two years. Amanda can thank her best friend for introducing her to the Rockefeller Center during her sophomore year. Due to her interest in international law, Amanda chose to sign up for RGLP her sophomore spring. She enjoyed the program so much that by sophomore summer she was working for the program.

As a Student Program Assistant for RGLP, for the past two years Amanda has tried to give other students the same great experience she had as a participant. Her job consists of facilitating the weekly RGLP sessions, contacting speakers after sessions to provide student feedback, reviewing applications, and leading campus outreach. She works on the website, helps create brochures, and holds coffee hours in King Arthur Flour, or KAF, for potential participants. Amanda is always looking for ways to get more students interested in RGLP.

One of the calling cards for students participating in RGLP is the new Montreal weekend trip that allows them to utilize and apply the skills they have learned in the weekly sessions. Amanda plans and develops the activities for this exciting trip. Whether developing content for the Montreal trip or the weekly sessions, these are Amanda’s favorite aspects of being a Student Program Assistant as they relates to her career pursuits. "As someone who aspires to work as an attorney for the United Nations, I am very committed to continuously enhancing my intercultural competence skills," says Amanda. "I equally enjoy having the opportunity to facilitate important conversations on campus regarding diversity."

The Rockefeller Center appreciates Amanda’s creativity and enthusiasm, calling her a delight to work with. Amanda "shows a certain level of maturity and sincerity in the way she regards her work, she engages critically in whatever task is asked of her, [and is] able to complete multiple-tasks with excellence," says Program Officer Vincent Mack. She "is not afraid to take the lead when needed." Amanda’s exceptional leadership helped her be accepted into Harvard Law School. While in law school, Amanda plans to build on her Government and Asian and Middle Eastern Studies double major by studying international law. Amanda credits her time with RGLP as helping her during her study abroad program in China and helping her hone her interests in international affairs
