With Casual Thursday, Improv to the People, and Sit-Down Tragedy Featuring Pakistani Comedians Danish Ali and Ali Gul Pir

Two of Pakistan’s most successful comedians, Danish Ali and Ali Gul Pir, are coming to America, and Dartmouth is a key point in their tour. Danish, a former doctor turned comedian and television producer, has been described as “brilliantly funny…it’s like he’s seeing through reality and presenting it to you in the same manner as a ninja pulling your heart out and showing it to you before you die laughing…” (The News, Pakistan). Videos of director, comedian and singer Ali’s many politically and culturally incisive sketches and comic songs have become a viral internet sensation. Both are known for pushing boundaries in a country where stand-up is a relatively unknown—and risky—business.

During their three-day residency with the Hopkins Center, Danish and Ali will collaborate with members of Dartmouth student comedy groups—Casual Thursday, Improv to the People and Sit-Down Tragedy—to create and perform Stand Up and Improv Our Country, an original and hilarious show with the 2012 Presidential Election as the focal point.
