Foreign Policy Analyst, Author Michael Cohen to Speak at Rockefeller Center on Monday 1/14/13 at 4:30 PM - “Clear and Present Safety: America Has Never Been Safer"
As the War on Terror rages on in Afghanistan, Americans have never been more cognizant of the international threats to our domestic security. However, more than a decade since the attacks of September 11thand following the conclusion of the U.S. military presence in Iraq, one may wonder the current state of America’s safety from enemies domestic and abroad.
Michael Cohen has extensively studied the state of America’s national security through his role as a Fellow at the Century Foundation. He has concluded that the media and U.S. policymakers have created a scenario of threat inflation, rebutting that the U.S. is currently a remarkably safe and secure home for its inhabitants. Stemming from this conclusion, Cohen argues that the U.S. should readjust its foreign policy to more accurately reflect the world that actually exists.
Michael Cohen is a regular writer and commentator on American politics and U.S. foreign policy, authoring Live from the Campaign Trail: The Greatest Presidential Campaign Speeches of the 20th Century and How They Shaped Modern America as well as many columns for the Guardiannewspaper. Formerly he was a senior fellow at the New America Foundation and the American Security Project. He is a frequent writer on politics and international affairs, and his work has been featured in publications such as The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, The Boston Globe, Foreign Affairs, Politico, World Policy Journal, The Nation, Dissent and Reuters. Michael holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations from American University and a master’s degree from Columbia University, where he teaches in the School of International and Public Affairs.
