The Rockefeller Center Board of Visitors (BoV) convened in October for their two-day biannual meeting. The BoV is comprised of Dartmouth College alumni who serve as advisors to the Director of the Center. Drawing from a wide range of backgrounds, the members represent academia, business, law and non-profit organizations. This fall the Board welcomed two new members Mike Pyle ’00 and Ariel Stern ’05 and Tim Harrison ’78 as the new Chair.
The Board uses its time while back on campus to meet with faculty, staff, and students who collaborate with the Center and participate in courses and programming.
On Friday, Sociology Professors Emily Walton and Kimberly Rogers were invited to speak to Members. Walton and Rogers organized and convened a conference in September 2017 titled “Interacting Across Difference” for which they applied for funding support by the Rockefeller Center.
The Board also heard from a panel of four students Julia Decerega ’18, Jimmy Fair ’18, Connie Lee ’18, and Daniel Shlien ’18, who have been significantly involved with the Rockefeller Center all four years of their undergraduate careers. They shared with Members how the First-Year Fellows program and all the subsequent experiences since have impacted their Dartmouth experiences and post-graduate plans.
A reception was held in Hinman Forum where Members had the chance to meet with students who are involved in Rocky courses or programs.
At dinner on Friday evening, Curt Welling ’71 TU’74, was recognized for his tenure as Chair and his service to the Board as a member since 2006. For the past decade Curt has been a tireless evangelist for the Center and Rocky has benefited tremendously from his leadership.
