Tim Holman ‘20 hails from Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from Hawken High School. At Hawken, Tim was the President of Student and Faculty Government, the captain of the Men’s Varsity Soccer team, and earned numerous Speech and Debate awards at the local, state, and national levels, culminating as a Semifinalist at the 2016 National Speech and Debate Tournament.
At Dartmouth, Tim is pursuing a major in Government with a minor in Public Policy. He has continued his passion for student governance as an elected member of Student Assembly and the West House Executive Board. Additionally, he is a Dartmouth Tour Guide and a member of the Hill Winds Society. This Winter term, he is travelling abroad to Spain on a Dartmouth Language Study Abroad program.
As a First-Year Fellow, Tim interned at the Smithsonian Institution, Office of Policy and Analysis under the mentorship of Ed Rynne ’77. As an intern analyst, Tim had a variety of different duties. He worked on a museum-visitor motivation study for the new National Museum of African American History and Culture to detect museum-visitors’ motivation for coming to the museum. In addition, he conducted a detail study and focus group with ten visually-impaired visitors to assess the efficacy of hearing devices in a new national park service exhibit in the National Museum of Natural History. Furthermore, he worked on projects regarding the Smithsonian’s Mellon Conservation summer internship program.
According to Tim, “The most significant thing I learned during my fellowship was the importance of networking. Networking is something that I enjoy and helped me meet a lot of really interesting people in D.C. For example, I was able to meet Danielle Jellerette, a federal human capital consultant at Deloitte and recent Dartmouth graduate. She gave me some really sound advice about my internship, Dartmouth, and career aspirations. Networking in D.C. allowed me to meet really interesting people and help me determine what I want to do in the future.”
After graduation, Tim plans to travel around the globe and then attend law school.
