On the Loss of David Rockefeller, 1915-2017

David Rockefeller, banker, philanthropist, presidential adviser, and heir to one of history’s most fabled fortunes, died on March 20, 2017 at his home in Pocantico Hills, New York. He was 101.

Rockefeller was the youngest and last-surviving grandson of Standard Oil founder John D. Rockefeller and brother of Nelson A. Rockefeller. David Rockefeller, along with his four brothers, established The Rockefeller Brothers Fund in 1940 with the mission "to advance social change that contributes to a more just, sustainable, and peaceful world."

Rockefeller’s guiding influence on the philanthropic efforts of his family extended beyond the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. He fostered younger leadership by founding the Rockefeller Family Fund in 1967, and the David Rockefeller Fund in 1989.
