Brief Description of the organization:
The American Cancer Society is a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. Established in 1913, the society is organized into six geographical regions of both medical and lay volunteers operating in more than 250 Regional offices throughout the United States.
Brief Description of the Intern’s role or key qualifications:
Assist in the creation and development of federal relations advocacy products and tools including talking points, letters, spreadsheets and briefing documents.
Assist in the planning and execution of events including grassroots lobby days, Congressional briefings, and coalition events.
Accompany ACS CAN federal relations staff to meetings on Capitol Hill to lobby Congress, as needed.
Conduct research on current legislative issues as assigned, to be used to help further ACS CAN’s mission on behalf of people with cancer, people at risk of cancer, and survivors.
