On Monday, April 8th, Hanover witnessed an impressive 98.71% eclipse. The Rockefeller Center was proud to sponsor a viewing gathering on the Green, featuring safe eclipse glasses, music, and refreshments. The event was co-sponsored by the Office of the Provost, and the Department of Physics & Astronomy.
The eclipse glasses were procured from American Paper Optics, recognized as one of the select manufacturers endorsed by the American Astronomical Society for providing safe solar viewers. John Jerit, CEO of American Paper Optics, previously joined the Rockefeller Center for The Portman Lecture in the Spirit of Entrepreneurship on Wednesday, February 7, 2024. During the lecture, Jerit shared the inspiring journey of his start-up, which had evolved into the leading producer of 3D glasses and reliable solar eyewear, detailing their preparations for the upcoming total solar eclipse.
The Rockefeller Center is coordinating with the Montshire Museum to donate unused and used eclipse glasses leftovers from the event to Astronomers without Borders for reuse.
