James Barragán is a politics reporter for The Texas Tribune, an independent nonprofit news organization covering state politics and government. As a Nieman fellow, he has studied democratic backsliding abroad and applied those measurements to the kind of backsliding we are seeing in the United States. He has also studied ways to arrest and reverse that backsliding through social mobilization, policy and art.

The conversation will be moderated by Department of Government Professor Jennifer Jerit, Douglas A. Donahue, Jr. 1973 Distinguished Professor.
