The Dartmouth Archaeology Group includes faculty, post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, and undergraduates doing research. The group presents and discusses new research, policy, and current events impacting cultural heritage in the U.S. and internationally.
Archaeology, as the material study of the human past, intersects the humanities, social sciences, and sciences and offers a perspective on human societies and history that complements written records. The Dartmouth Archaeology Group sponsors 4-5 seminars and lectures during the term and occasional conferences and student presentations. The Group developed a team-taught undergraduate course, Who Owns the Past (ANTH 13/CLST 11.05), and provides information and guidance to students about archaeological field schools and research opportunities.
Workshop organizers are: Susan Ackerman, Preston H. Kelsey Professor of Religion and Chair, Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies; Jesse Casana, associate professor of anthropology; Julie Hruby, assistant professor of classical studies; and Roger B. Ulrich, Ralph Butterfield Professor of Classical Studies.
