Brief Description of the organization:

Lead for America is a nonprofit startup working to ensure that our country's most dynamic and diverse young leaders are working on our toughest challenges. We believe that with the right leadership in the right places, we can reimagine the American Dream in a way that is 1) Shared. Where we all have strong communal ties and a common aspiration of equity and justice for all. 2) Accessible. Where everyone has a chance at economic and civic mobility, no matter their zip code; and 3) Sustainable. Where our education system and public institutions are well positioned to grow and sustain the next generation of leadership that will be responsible for solving problems that we cannot yet see.

Lead for America seeks to revitalize America by strengthening every community that comprises it. We do this by offering pathways into civic leadership for outstanding young individuals, working to strengthen our public institutions, and intervening in our narrative of success to push it towards one that values humility, community, and service.

Brief Description of the Intern's role or key qualifications:

Lead for America is about to begin a period of tremendous growth. From the organization's founding just one year ago, we have raised several million dollars from public, private, and philanthropic partners and have launched three distinct programs. In the next year, we expect to grow from 6 full-time employees to 20, which will put us in position to significantly expand our Fellowship and education programs, while also positioning us as a leading model for community-based problem solving prior to the 2020 elections.

We are looking for team members who are excited about being a part of this growth and helping shape a nationwide movement that will be enlisting hundreds, and soon thousands, of young leaders every year. We are seeking people who will see this role as a path to leadership development and professional growth. The right team additions will feel energized and excited by enormous responsibility and opportunities for creative autonomy and must be disciplined, self-motivated, highly organized, and have excellent oral and written skills.

Open Positions:

  • Director of Community Partnerships
  • Director of Communications
  • Director of Recruitment + Selection
  • Chief of Staff
  • Director of National Development
  • Direct of State + Local Development
  • Director of Operations + Finance
  • Director of Programs

Prior writing experience is strongly preferred. We are a young team! It is not expected that you have had this level of responsibility in a previous role, though those that have are certainly encouraged to apply.
