First-Year Fellow Mentor: Deborah Hanmer '99

The First-Year Fellows program is a unique opportunity for first-year students to engage meaningfully in public policy early in their Dartmouth careers. Each year, around 20 students are selected and placed in fellowships with Dartmouth alumni in Washington, D.C., who are willing to take on a significant mentoring role.

"I continue to host interns for two big reasons: one, I love the annual connection to Dartmouth and the infusion of that Big Green energy into my organization and two, I want to encourage interest among college students around entering into public service. Moving public service leaders beyond just having good hearts and bring effective managerial skills and strategic thinking to public organizations and services. Encouraging smart and talented college students to enter into public service is why I continue to host our first year fellows. We have had great experiences with the Fellows. My entire management team asks me about them each year. Their arrival is highly anticipated" --Deborah Hanmer '99
