Brief Description of the organization:

The Brookings Institution is a leading think tank on various areas of nation public policy. Brookings traces its foundation back to 1916, when a group of experts founded the Institute of Government Research, the first private organization devoted to analyzing public policy issues at the national level. Since, then, Brookings has developed a name for itself as a leading think tank.

Brief Description of the Intern’s role or key qualifications:

Applicants need to be graduate or undergraduate students (who have completed their freshman year) working towards a degree in a relevant field (i.e. economics, political science, statistics, international development, etc) or recent college graduates.

Candidates should have an interest in Africa, political economy, economics, and international development. The intern will need a wide variety of research and other skills, including the ability to find, read and synthesize information thoroughly and efficiently; respond to tight deadlines; and to organize information with exceptional attention to detail. Excellent organization and communication skills, both written and oral; the abilities to accomplish tasks efficiently without supervision, and to collaborate with others; and a willingness and enthusiasm to learn are required. Proficiency in one or more of the following programs is also required: R, Stata, SPSS or Excel.
