Brief Description of the organization:

Justice in Motion is a nonprofit organization that protects migrant rights across borders through legal,

policy, and educational programs in North and Central America.

Brief Description of the Intern's role or key qualifications:

The small and growing organization is looking for interns to work in our Brooklyn, New York office on

various legal and policy development projects. The primary role of the intern is to assist with research

on issues surrounding transnational migrants. The specific assignments may be updating manuals,

drafting memos.

Projects will require strong research and writing skills, and topics may include the following:

  • Documenting the abuses and human trafficking that take place under temporary

(nonimmigrant) work visas. Justice in Motion is currently spearheading federal legislation to

protect workers from trafficking—read more in our Press Statement.

  • Conducting research on federal visa regulations and statistics to update Visa Pages, the

national resource on nonimmigrant work visas in the U.S.

  • Researching the civil and constitutional rights violations suffered by immigrants, to support

our cross-border civil rights project for detained and deported immigrants.

  • Exploring policy developments in Mexico and Central America with the potential to affect

migrants' cross-border rights.

  • Conducting research to support our legal casework, in which we partner U.S. advocates with

human rights defenders in Mexico and Central America to ensure that migrants have access to

justice.

Depending on the semester and program priorities, the intern will have the opportunity to contribute

to or spearhead the drafting of reports, manuals, handouts, and memos on the above topics. Travel

may be a possibility if self-funded.

The intern will be a team player and contribute to meeting the day-to-day needs of the Justice in

Motion office. As a small office, the intern will be fully integrated as a team member. This will include

attending staff meetings and all-team activities.
