The Governor’s Office Internship Program is uncompensated and is intended for persons seeking to gain professional and/or academic experience. If course credit is offered by your school, we will certainly work with you to achieve that goal.

Time Commitment: Up to 40 hours per week for at least 8 weeks

Desired Class Year: Open to all class years including graduate students

Desired Major or Interest: Open to all majors

Brief Description of the organization:

The Governor’s Office Internship Program is a select internship experience designed for students who are innovative and passionate about public service, and offers a variety of opportunities and possibilities for interns to gain both academic and professional experience. Brief Description of the Intern’s role or key qualifications:

We have several projects that the Governor’s office is working on with the Choose Love Program that focuses on the Social and Emotional Learning program being implemented by the Department of Education with support from other state agencies and stakeholders. This would be an ideal opportunity for students in the social work and education concentrations.

Purpose of The Governor’s Office Internship Program: The Governor’s Office Internship Program is designed to give high-quality applicants the opportunity to see the inner workings of state government and contribute to growing and improving the State of New Hampshire.

The Governor’s Office Internship Program is intended to provide you with:

  • Exposure to operations and day-to-day tasks of the Governor’s Office
  • Experiential learning and assignments that reflect methods in how the office strives for government to be more effective, efficient, and open to its citizens
  • A framework to enhance educational experience through practical work and research, thereby developing skills useful for career development

Duties of an intern may include any of the following areas:

  • Communications and Press Department Support to include transcribing speeches and interviews, assisting with press releases and helping to catalogue photos of the Governor and his events.
  • Scheduling – Organizing scheduling and meeting requests and working with the Governor’s Director of Scheduling in responding to requests.
  • Policy research to include reviewing pending legislation before the New Hampshire House of Representatives and New Hampshire Senate, attending legislative hearings and briefings and reporting back to the office on the debate and outcomes of those meetings, as well as reviewing existing state RSA’s and regulations.
  • Writing and composition to include preparing briefing memo’s, policy papers, and correspondence for the Governor and staff on issues of importance to the office.
  • Constituent Service – Assisting with constituent complaints and inquiries, preparing and executing official proclamations and citations issued by the Governor, assisting with organizing, logging, and responding to constituent correspondence.
