Brief Description of the organization:

UNDP works in about 170 countries and territories, helping to achieve the eradication of poverty, and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion. We help countries to develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities and build resilience in order to sustain development results.

The Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy (BERA) of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is pleased to announce the creation of a new internship opportunity to support the development of crowdfunding programs in its vast network of programme countries, many of which have weak underlying health and economic systems, and are actively supporting local communities across the globe as they respond to the COVID-19 crisis.

Brief Description of the Intern's role or key qualifications:

The offer to support UNDP country offices in developing their own digital individual giving / crowdfunding campaigns was developed in April 2020, as part of a crisis response mechanism to meet demand from UNDP country offices. It is one of many initiatives that will mobilize the assets of UNDP, as outlined in UNDP's COVID-19 Integrated Response, and will help countries to prepare, to respond during the outbreak, and to recover from economic and social impacts of the pandemic in the months to come.

BERA is looking for a reliable, motivated student or recent graduate to join our team in the near term, who is able to work at least 20 hours per week for the next 10 weeks. Duties will include assisting with general administrative support, including management of a shared Microsoft Teams space, updating documentation, creating and curating meeting notes and videos, and supporting financial reconciliation and reporting as needed. Further, the coordinator will provide communications and marketing support to develop 'owned' online and social media content to support individual giving and other related programs. The most qualified candidates will also have direct experience implementing paid social media campaigns through the Facebook/Instagram and Google Ads platforms and will have a deep interest in developing or growing his/her skill set in digital marketing.

The coordinator must be a resourceful self-starter who thrives in a rapidly evolving context and will be able to work effectively in a demanding work environment. He/she will possess excellent attention to detail, follow through, and demonstrate advanced writing skills. Candidates with a strong interest and/or experience in employing alternative funding strategies to alleviate the effects of inequality and poverty, and/or interest in sustainable development are preferred

At a minimum, the candidate should be proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. He/she ideally possesses digital media skills including the ability to create effective, persuasive online and social media content and leverage digital and social media platforms to identify, reach, and engage key audiences.

While the coordinator will generally adhere to the Eastern standard workday, he/she will also be required to work across time zones globally and must be available outside of a standard 9-5 p.m. EST schedule in order to effectively support the work of regional bureaus and country offices.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions in accessing IT resources, the coordinator must be able to provide his/her own computer for the duration of the assignment. Should the UNDP's COVID-19 restrictions lift during the assignment, it may be possible to arrange for UNDP's central IT department to provide a laptop for work use.
