Kenan-Flagler Business School Professor Alison Fragale '97 Leads Delegation RLF Session

Alison Fragale ’97, Professor of Organizational Behavior at the Kenan-Flagler Business School and a member of the Rockefeller Center Board of Visitors, led a workshop titled “Don’t go it alone: Effective delegation and empowerment for leaders” as one of the final RLF sessions of the year.  She opened with a small-group exercise designed to demonstrate how challenging effective management can be to practice on the ground.  Fellows were divided into teams of three and designated as “management” or “production.”  After receiving instructions on how to complete the task from their managers, the production teams raced against the clock to correctly solve a puzzle as quickly as possible.

The groups met with varying levels of success, and after the Fellows reconvened Fragale shared important considerations for practicing effective delegation.  She stressed the importance of holding others accountable and following through with assignments, and offered methods to identify which tasks are appropriate for delegation.  Fellows were then invited to share their own experiences with delegation through either classroom experiences or extracurricular activities.
