As a First-Year Fellow, I worked at the National Women’s Business Council (NWBC), a non-partisan federal advisory council that promotes women’s entrepreneurship in the United States by providing policy recommendations to Congress, the President, and the Small Business Administration.
[more]This summer, I worked in the Higher Education Programs (HEP) division within the Office of Postsecondary Education at the US Department of Education. HEP primarily handles federal grant programs for higher education institutions in order to broaden access for low-income, first-generation students and strengthen the capacity of colleges and universities that serve a high percentage of historically marginalized students.
[more]As a First-Year Fellow, I worked at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), which is responsible for monitoring the trading and distribution of power commodities such as electricity, natural gas, and oil. FERC has jurisdiction over domestic energy commerce and wholesale energy prices. Its top priorities include demand response and transmission planning services, as well as enabling a reliable and efficient electricity grid.
[more]As a First-Year Fellow, I worked at the Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC)'s Financial Regulatory Reform Initiative (FRRI). The initiative seeks to provide recommendations that are not based on any ideological or partisan shortcuts. As my mentor explained, the FRRI aims to gather research and testimony from all interested parties and publish recommendations that are based on a reasonable and thoughtful set of facts (albeit in a world where objective facts do not exist). When the debate over financial regulatory reform proceeds from these basic set of facts, then the FRRI’s goal is achieved.
[more]This past summer, I worked at the Smithsonian Institution's Office of Policy & Analysis (OP & A). The Smithsonian Institution’s mission is to increase knowledge and inspire learning about nature and culture through outstanding research, collections, exhibitions, and education in support of a sustainable future. Within the Smithsonian Institution, the OP & A serves as a medium for museum improvement by conducting research, evaluations, and needs assessments for the various clients both in and outside the Institution.
