    Linguistic and cultural differences as well as stereotypes associated with political tensions are some challenges to global collaboration. As we found the roleplay activity between the two fake countries, it can be very difficult to try to understand others who have very different manners of talking, emotional expression, and levels of comfort with sharing personal information.

    To be adaptable is to be accepting of, and fluid towards, change. We often tend to stick to what we know and are hesitant to step beyond our comfort zones. Sometimes, however, the choice is not up to us and circumstances force us to deal with unfamiliar situations. It is in times like these that our ability to maneuver through the unknown is put to the test.

    Before RGLP I thought that I had significant experience with both culture and leadership, but RGLP helped me realize that there is no limit to having cultural learning experiences. The way RGLP impacted me the most was through the realization of what culture truly is and how it affects all of us. Though we most often view culture as something connected to country of origin or ethnic and racial groups, every single person, even if they are from the same country or region has a different culture that informs their perspective on life.

    What does it mean to be a " global citizen " or a " global leader "? These past eight weeks have allowed me to submerge myself into various cultures and situations to define these key terms. Global citizens engage with other cultures, while global leaders do more. Every group of individuals have some form of culture that dictates their beliefs, values, and action. Within our beautiful campus, we have one big inclusive culture composed of various cultures. Navigating these cross-cultural interactions may be heard but embracing these encounters with an open mind.

    As someone who aims to work in the field of addressing climate change and achieving sustainable development goals across international borders, I have always sought to learn how to navigate differences in opinions. Having grown up in five different cities across India, and now living in a sixth place across the globe, I assumed I was well-versed with differences in thoughts, cultures, and values. And yet, RGLP taught me to look at these in a whole new light – discussing the myriad of ambiguities and nuances that contribute to an individual's opinion.
