    This past summer, I interned at The New Hampshire Adult Parole Board, which is an agency that presides over parole hearings. My task was to research the parole practices in other states and record them down. Over my internship, I combed through hundreds of state statues and parole handbooks to understand how parole is issued, broadly speaking, in the United States. Each state has different guidelines and requirements handed down from their respective legislature.

    This past summer, I interned at A Step Ahead Foundation which is a Memphis based nonprofit dedicated to helping women gain access to reliable birth control. Through working on public policy, the foundation hopes to provide long acting, reversible contraception to all Tennessee women. Many areas in Memphis and across the state of Tennessee are severely impoverished. Women too often have an unplanned pregnancy at an early age. Foundation education and funding enables women of all backgrounds to avoid these pregnancies.

  • NOTES FROM THE FIELD: MARIA SMITH LOPEZ '21

    October 19, 2020

    This summer I interned remotely for a gubernatorial campaign in New Hampshire. The organizational structure was fluid and grassroots, offering ample opportunities to try my hand at many different aspects of campaigning. Over the course of the internship, I contributed to the finance team, digital team, communications team, and policy team in varying levels. My work for the finance team was primarily donor research and I researched climate, voting rights, and marijuana policy for the policy team.

  • NOTES FROM THE FIELD: MAX MICKENBERG '21

    October 19, 2020

    This Summer I completed a remote internship with the Connecticut Division of Public Defender Services under the supervision of Supervisory Assistant Public Defender David Warner. My position consisted of extensive legal research and analysis as I assisted my supervisor in creating a book on Connecticut caselaw to be used as a resource for state public defenders.
