Rocky hosts field hearing for NH Service Year Workforce Commission

On Monday evening, March 2, 2020, The Nelson A. Rockefeller Center at Dartmouth College hosted the first field hearing of the New Hampshire Service Year Workforce Commission, chaired by New Hampshire Rep. Matthew Wilhelm.  Class of 1964 Policy Research Shop students Tyler Baum '20 and Michael Nachman '21 have been working with Commission Chair Wilhelm for several months in conducting on the roles of higher education institutions across the state in facilitating the admission of students who have taken a year prior to enrollment in college to work for the public good in programs such as City Year or Americorps.  In addition, Baum and Nachman have working on assessing the feasibility of constructing an interactive website for the Commission.  The students presented their findings to the Commission in the formal testimony.  Their policy brief, “Service Year Opportunities in New Hampshire,” PRS Policy Brief 1920-02, was provided to each of the Commissioners.  In addition to presenting their research findings on the various programs available at colleges and universities across the state, Baum and Nachman reported to the Commission that, in concert with the DALI Lab at Dartmouth, Volunteer NH and the Nelson A. Rockefeller Center will be providing the financial and in-kind support to bring the proposed website to a live launch at the last of the field hearings scheduled by the Commission in late May of 2020.
