Powershift 2011 is an environmental conference in Washington D.C. that reaches out specifically to students and young professionals.  With important key note speakers, educational workshops, and an entire day set aside for lobbying, Powershift aims to educate and empower the next generation.  It facilitates the passing of the torch from older, experienced environmentalists and lobbyists to young people like Dartmouth students.  By attending Powershift 2011, this group of 52 Dartmouth students hopes to increase their understanding of environmental issues facing the nation today, and to learn how to positively effect change in our political system.  It will also be a time to connect with thousands of other like-minded, change-oriented young people from across the country and globe.  To be a part of a unifying experience like this one will provide passion and inspiration, as well as practical tools that can be brought back to campus and applied in the classroom and throughout the various initiatives and clubs in which these students are involved.  Change was the rallying cry for our generation last election, and attending Powershift will follow up on that commitment by providing skills and connections with which change will become not only a vision, but a possibility.
