Brief Description of the organization:
Brave New Films champions social justice issues by using media to inspire, empower, motivate, engage and teach civic participation that makes a difference. Our goal is to support the active civic engagement of an informed citizenry by calling attention to important issues through non-partisan social media production and our ingenious multi-platform distribution network.
Brief Description of the Intern's role or key qualifications:
Responsibilities:
Keep up with current events; research and monitor trending topics for rapid-response posts and memes
Create posts for multiple social media platforms using curated and original content
Engage with audience by responding to comments
Optimize social media content (titles, thumbnails, descriptions, playlists, captions)
Monitor analytics and create reports
Research social justice organizations and issue areas, create lists of contacts for outreach
Write compelling leads for new content
Draft emails for content launches
Assist in the creation of engaging content, including photos and videos
Qualifications:
Currently enrolled in a college program in a related field, especially political science
Conversant with major social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube
Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and a knowledge of basic graphic design (i.e. can independently create social media memes from scratch under creative direction)
Basic video editing skills in Adobe Premiere (not required but a plus)
Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Docs
Excellent verbal and writing skills
Ability to research and digest complex issues quickly and effectively
Passion for progressive politics, social justice and activism; desire to use film as a tool for social change
Strong organizational skills and attention to details
Flexibility, enthusiasm, self-motivated and a positive attitude!
Responsibilities:
Assist in the development and maintenance of the department's list of contact information for outreach to current and potential partner colleges, universities, high schools, and student organizations.
Research opportunities to screen BNF films in schools and colleges
Research potential organizations and groups for partnership
Email and call partners to promote and set up screenings of BNF films
Help ensure the smooth execution of screenings and engage in follow up with hosts
Conduct research on topics related to inequality, justice and security
Qualifications:
Currently enrolled in a college program in a related field, especially education, communications and/or humanities
Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite
Passion for progressive politics and activism
Experience with and interest in in-depth research
Attention to detail
Strong writing skills
Flexibility and a sense of humor
Responsibilities:
Find clips from the web to support Director of Campaigns, editors and current projects.
Ingest and organize web and original footage according to our particular post protocols.
Create string outs of selections based on scripts and project needs
Research facts and statistical information that support our pieces
Hunt down original sources of images or creative common footage
Review previously shot original footage to mark for reuse
Create master clips logs of final cuts, noting timecode, sources, and making fair use judgment calls
Transcribe material, occasionally needed
Share cool videos and looks we can learn from as a team
Qualifications:
Currently enrolled in a college program in a related field
Knowledge of and familiarity with Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro
Experience editing short videos for either class or personal projects
Basic knowledge of ingesting footage from DSLR cameras into a Premiere project
