Brief Description of the organization:
The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) is an independent federal agency that provides support to advance and disseminate knowledge in all of the disciplines of the humanities: history, literature, linguistics, archaeology, jurisprudence and the history, criticism and theory of the arts. NEH grant programs are designed to achieve four objectives: (1) the creation of new knowledge in the humanities; (2) the dissemination of the humanities to the American people; (3) improving humanities education; and (4) preserving and increasing the availability of resources in the humanities. Representative projects include: fellowships for independent scholars, college and university teachers; support for documentary films for airing over the Public Broadcasting System; summer seminars and national institutes for college and school teachers; development of cultural institutions and exhibits; and the preservation of manuscripts, books and artifacts in the nation's archives, libraries and museums.

How to apply:
You must be a U.S. citizen or foreign national residing legally in the U.S. and enrolled in a U.S. academic degree granting institution to apply for a NEH internship. Feel free to list multiple offices and rank them according to your preferences. Please submit a resume, writing sample, and cover letter indicating where in the NEH you wish consideration for an internship. Summer internships begin mid May and go through early August. We can be somewhat flexible on the specific internship dates to accommodate your schools academic calendar. A writing sample and copy of your transcript, if applying for a student internship, is requested but not required. Also, for student applicants from colleges or universities that grant academic credit for internships, please indicate if you are seeking an internship for academic credit. Your application will be directed to appropriate NEH divisions and offices for consideration. Please check each Division/Office page for additional application requirements.
