Policy Summer Series for Prospective Students

In partnership with the Nelson A. Rockefeller Center for Public Policy and the Social Sciences, the Dartmouth Office of Admissions invites prospective students to join our Policy Summer Series on Thursday evenings in July at 7 ET. The Policy Summer Series will consist of the following webinars:

Policy Summer Series #1

Thursday, July 7 • 7:00 p.m. – 7:45 p.m. ET
Sadhana Hall, Deputy Director of the Rockefeller Center, will provide an overview of the mission of the Rockefeller Center and have a discussion with a few students about the personal and professional growth they have experienced as a result of participating in curricular and co-curricular programs of the Rockefeller Center. Register for this event.

Policy Summer Series #2

Thursday, July 14 • 7:00 p.m. – 7:45 p.m. ET
This session, led by Professor Ronald Shaiko, will focus on two of our core courses in the public policy minor curriculum—PBPL 5: Introduction to Public Policy and PBPL 45: Introduction to Public Policy Research—as well as two of our premier co-curricular programs linked to these two classes: The First-Year Fellows Program and the Class of 1964 Policy Research Shop. Register for this event.

Policy Summer Series #3

Thursday, July 21 • 7:00 p.m. – 7:45 p.m. ET
Herschel Nachlis, a Government and Public Policy Professor, teaches a range of public policy classes at Dartmouth. One of them, the Global Practicum in Policy Leadership, involves a different topic and place of travel each year. Students study a topic during the fall term in Hanover, such as the Eurozone and global financial crisis or U.S. involvement in the Colombian peace process. At the end of the term the class visits that country or region for two weeks to meet with policymakers, journalists, academics, and other experts who can share their experiences. The goal is to learn about important international topics firsthand, and also to bring back lessons that are applicable to other policy settings, domestic or international. Herschel Nachlis will describe the Global Practicum in Policy Leadership in this session, focusing on his class's 2019 travels to Greece, Germany, and Switzerland to study financial crises. Register for this event.

Policy Summer Series #4

Thursday, July 28 • 7:00 p.m. – 7:45 p.m. ET
Bob Coates, Assistant Director of the Rockefeller Center, will begin this session outlining the relationship between public policy and leadership. Program Officers who manage the Center's programs will then engage in a lively discussion with students about how these programs build leadership skills and competencies. An alumna will trace her career path and explain how she has used lessons from Rocky programs in her personal and professional leadership growth. Register for this event.
