Rockefeller Leadership Fellows Fall 2023 Update

The Rockefeller Leadership Fellows had a busy fall term! The quarter started with a kickoff retreat in September. At this all day event, the 2024 cohort got to know each other through a series of team bonding activities led by Dr. Stephen Gonzalez from Dartmouth Athletics. The Fellows also developed their "Cohort Norms" and began drafting their leadership philosophy for the year. In October, the Rockefeller Leadership Fellows met again for a midterm check-in. The students reconnected with each other and reflected on their leadership goals over dinner. The fall term concluded with two Fellow presentations in November. Mackenzie Brady '24 highlighted the importance of a growth mindset for emerging leaders. Sabin Hart '24 taught the group about servant leadership and how it can be applied to everyday situations. Following their presentations, the cohort provided feedback to Mackenzie and Sabin. This was a great opportunity for both students to develop their public speaking skills. The rest of the cohort will present on a leadership topic at the beginning of the winter term. These presentations are a requirement for successful completion of the Rockefeller Leadership Fellows program.

In addition to these events, the Fellows were expected to attend two leadership-related speaker events throughout the term. Students heard from 2024 presidential candidates, distinguished professors, and social activists. Fellows also connected with Dartmouth alum Dan Fang '15 for leadership coaching sessions. Dan mentored students on all things related to life after graduation: selecting a career, dealing with the complex emotions that come with graduating from college, and how to become a leader in the workplace.

The winter term will be even more eventful for the Rockefeller Leadership Fellows. The students will meet weekly to hear from a number of different speakers on leadership and personal development. Stay tuned for the RLF winter update in March!
