People frequently evaluate facial attractiveness and make inferences about character traits from faces, and these evaluations are consistent across observers (Todorov, Said, & Verosky, 2011). Do these face evaluations rely on the same perceptual mechanisms as facial identity recognition? By using three test formats, one of which is identical to the format used to assess identity processing (CFPT), our findings provide firm evidence that identity processing and face evaluations can dissociate in prosopagnosia.
