The Rockefeller Center Board of Visitors (BoV) convened in May for their two-day biannual meeting. The BoV is comprised of Dartmouth College alumni who serve as advisors to the Director of the Center. Drawing from a wide range of backgrounds, the members represent academia, business, non-profit organizations, and the law. The newest member to the Board is Monica Higgins ’86 Tu’90.
One highlight of the meeting was a student panel comprised of four students who had participated in the PBPL 43 Social Entrepreneurship course: Archer Chapin ’19, Sarah Kennedy ’19, Cindy Li ’18, and Colleen O’Connor ’19. The students shared with the Board their course projects, how the course fit into their broader plan of study, and what lessons they took from the experience.
Following the formal part of Friday’s sessions, Members joined students who are involved in Rocky courses and programs for a reception in Hinman Forum.
The Board of Visitors then met for dinner at the Hanover Inn with additional special guests and friends of the Center. At dinner, Robert Tichio ’99, who is rotating off the Board this year, was acknowledged for his service on the Board and presented with an engraved clock.
The occasion was also used to announce the Class of 1964 Outstanding Leadership Award recipient. The Class established the award at its 50th reunion in June of 2014 to honor those individuals who share the Class’s belief in the importance of developing young leaders to take on today’s challenges. Prior recipients include Ron Schram ’64, Nate Fick ’99, and Buddy Teevens ’79.
This year the award was given to Mary Flanagan, Professor of Film and Media Studies, the Sherman Fairchild Distinguished Professor in Digital Humanities. After accepting the award, Professor Flanagan, founding director of the Tiltfactor Lab, an interdisciplinary innovation studio that designs and studies games for social impact, provided guests with a brief overview of her current research and work with students.
The Board of Visitors will reconvene next during the Fall 2018 Term.
