Robert B. Coates is the Assistant Director for Co-Curricular Programs for the Nelson A. Rockefeller Center for Public Policy and the Social Sciences. Bob joined the center in September of 2019. His areas of responsibility include the Internship Funding and Advising programs, Public Programs and Special Events in addition to assisting the Deputy Director with overall operations.
Bob's background is in outdoor leadership and conservation-service experiences for youth and young-adults, having created residential AmeriCorps national service programs for the Student Conservation Association and the Vermont Youth Conservation Corps. He served in the United States Army National Guard and Reserve and as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Cameroon, West Africa.
Bob graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a BA in Political Science and holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He currently serves on the boards of the American Conservation Experience and the Windsor Central Unified School District in Woodstock, Vermont. He is a leader in Scouts BSA Troop 220 in Woodstock and enjoys outdoor pursuits with his family in South Pomfret, Vermont.
